The core feature of Elon Musk’s new encyclopedia, Grokipedia—that it is “fact-checked” by his AI, Grok—is already failing. Journalists and critics have immediately identified significant inaccuracies, including a false claim that pornography worsened the Aids epidemic.
This failure undermines Musk’s entire premise for the platform. He has launched Grokipedia as a right-wing rival to Wikipedia, which he attacks for using human editors and “mainstream media” sources. Grokipedia has no human authors, relying solely on its flawed AI.
The platform’s AI is not just inaccurate; it is also deeply biased. Musk has programmed his social media site X to amplify conservative voices, and Grokipedia’s content follows the same pattern.
The entry for the January 6 Capitol insurrection is a clear example, promoting the disproven lie of “widespread claims of voting irregularities.” It also reframes the violent attack as a “legitimate expression of grievances” against “perceived electoral flaws.”
This combination of political bias and factual error is drawing heavy criticism. The project, suggested by a former Trump administration official, is Musk’s latest attempt to create an alternative information bubble aligned with his personal views.
